uni district–a lot of singaporeans, myself included, are very hesitant to cut our hair overseas. it is number one, expensive, no 2, they dont noe how to deal with asian hair. but since after skyping with my mum that she complained that i need a haircut to look good in the summer photos, i decided to visit the hairdresser.
after word-of-mouth research from devi, she told me that Rudy’s barber shop along the ave (term for u-district) was good. like 12 bucks. okie. and they cut a bob well. good. and they give u what u want! so i went to the shop, and it was hippy and funky and edgy, hence it should be okie to try it out. it is 26 bucks plus tips = 29 usd. boohoo. but i was in the mood and in need for a haircut, so i went ahead.
the hairdresser was an ex-military officer, and i was glad i got her coz she looks the hippest among the rest. i showed her my old glory photos when i first cut my hair at shunji matsuo, and then told her what specifications i wanted, and sucked in a deep breath, and here we go!
snip! snip! cut! cut! spray spay! i was looking at how she cut, and observing the difference. she made small talk with me, and asked me where i got my old haircut from, and just talked about our family. pretty much like a conversation between an auntie, or an ah lian at the singapore hair salon, but in english. their idea of bob is abit different from our understanding. our bob is more daring, theirs is more volume.
so after a while, the conversation died down and she is off to her job. snip! snip! cut! cut!
no, i dont like the longer part, it was horrible. she didnt make any shape out of it at all. so i told her what i want, phew, it could be salvaged becoz she didnt cut that part at all. so after a nerve-wrecking wait while i watched her transform my longer part into a bob, it looked pretty decent. i kinda liked it. but i think the shunji matsuo is better and more skillful, plus i get tea, shampoo too.
i am not sure if im doing the right thing, i kinda was on my way to trying out long hair, and being on exchange gives u an excuse not to cut hair. a very good one. but well, its really thick and messsssy! i want to look good in my photos when i travel in summer. i mean i spend so much to go to all the nice places in america, it will be very wasted if i dont capture good photos of my memory. good photos as in nice scene plus nice people to complement the scene. to sum it up = VAIN.
well, mummy, i cut my hair and you foot the bill! this is what u want me to do!
